Foundational Five: Anti-Inflammatories

Acute inflammation is part of the body’s immune response as it works to provide care and protection of tissue. Chronic inflammation is a long-term problem that has been ongoing for months, or even years. The state of chronic inflammation is very destructive to the body and often leads to serious disease.

When the underlying health foundations are weak, the whole body suffers. At Apple Wellness we passionately believe that you can choose supplements that strengthen the base of your health. The five power-packed nutrients that make up the Foundational Five will help build your firm foundation.  They are multi-vitamins, probiotics, omega-3 oils, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatories.

What Is An Anti-Inflammatory?

When you hear the term “anti-inflammatory” do you immediately think of NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)? Oops! That is what we have been “trained” to think. Prescription and OTC drugs are what most people turn to when faced with pain and inflammation.

By definition an anti-inflammatory “refers to the property of a substance, or treatment, that reduces inflammation and/or swelling”. Inflammation causes pain. If inflammation causes pain, we can correlate that an anti-inflammatory will reduce or relieve pain.

There are anti-inflammatory supplements that reduce inflammation naturally. You can avoid drugs and their side effects.

The risks associated with the most commonly used anti-inflammatory drugs are:  gastrointestinal bleeding, high blood pressure, stroke, kidney damage, increased risk of miscarriage during the first 20 weeks of pregnancy, liver disease and liver damage.

Who Needs An Anti-Inflammatory?

All of us need an anti-inflammatory from time to time. But there are some specific reasons you might need to supplement with this important nutrient.

Do any of these apply to you?

  • Pain in the body
  • Currently dealing with a disease condition
  • Poor diet
  • Lack of exercise
  • Stress
  • High environmental toxin load
  • Genetic disease predisposition (such as Alzheimers, heart disease, diabetes, etc.)

Something else to consider is that many diseases have inflammation at their root. They begin with inflammation and progress to serious degenerative conditions. Some of these are cancer, IBS, type-2 diabetes, auto-immune disorders, Alzheimer’s disease, asthma, arthritis, skin disorders, and infertility.

You can see that eliminating inflammation before it becomes chronic is an important step in avoiding serious disease.

What Are Anti-Inflammatory’s health Benefits?

  • Relieves Pain
  • Relieves Inflammation
  • Reduction of Digestive Issues
  • Mood Enhancement
  • Relieves Depression
  • Strengthen the Immune System
  • Detoxification Support

Isn’t Food A Better Source?

To incorporate anti-inflammatory foods in your diet you would move toward an ancient Mediterranean style diet. This would be one filled with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, small amounts of red meat, and an abundance of omega-3 foods. Some of the top anti-inflammatory foods include: broccoli, bok choy, green leafy vegetables, beets, blueberries, and pineapple.

Even more important than including anti-inflammatory foods in your diet is eliminating foods that promote inflammation. Change your diet and remove: sugar, conventionally raised meat and dairy, refined carbohydrates, vegetable (crop) oils, eggs, foods from the nightshade family (tomatoes, peppers, eggplant).

What to Look For In An Anti-Inflammatory Supplement

  • Research Supported:  There is a multitude of research supporting the role of anti-inflammatories in the body. Look for products that have human clinical trials backing up their claims.
  • Solubility:  To achieve maximum benefit from your supplement, choose one that is both water and fat soluble.
  • Form:  It should be in its highest bioavailable form. This ensures that it will be available and easily assimilated by the body.

We all want to find relief from pain and inflammation. We also want to avoid serious degenerative disease that results from chronic inflammation. The anti-inflammatory “brick” in the Foundational Five support structure can impact your health, or lack of health, in the years to come. Let’s spend our future enjoying a healthy life.

This is great! Do you recommend Curamin to all your customers or are there different anti-inflammatories for different ages??

    • Kate Davison on

      Hello Hello!
My name is Tim O’Brien, owner of Apple Wellness. Curamin is a formula that is specifically for pain and can benefit most everyone. If a customer is not in pain I usually recommend a product named Curamed. Curamed is straight curcumin and is an anti-inflammatory (works to remove inflammation from the body).

A person’s specific health issues drive what products we recommend, however, curcumin is a powerful anti-inflammatory and, as part of our Foundational Five, is a staple!

Calls from customers are always welcome. We hope to be a resource to you. You can reach us at 608-663-2640. We always provide free shipping and will beat or match pricing!

I’m interested in an anti inflammatory. I’ve been an insulin dependent diabetic for 30 years and have noticed a real increase in inflammation, range of movement loss and painful joints.
It is important to know if your anti inflammatory raaises blood sugar?

My name is Lauroe Im in a lot of pain. My hips are so bad that there is no cartalige left and Im wondering if CBD oil is an alternative to pain medication that will work for my situation. My doctor will not help because Im opioid dependant. I need an alternative

    • Kate Davison on

      Hi Laurie,

I believe that CBD would help you as we receive consistent testimonies of those struggling through similar situations reporting relief.

However, since it’s a structural issue there are a couple other things you should know. Are you able to connect by phone or pop in the store?

I strongly believe we can help you!
      Tim OBrien

      Hi Beth,

Poor guy! Sure, we have some recommendations for helping ease pain and inflammation in older dogs. One of our top recommendations would definitely be a CBD oil for dogs. These can be very helpful in reducing pain and inflammation. If you want to have a one-one chat with one of our Wellness Consultants, give us a call and we’d be happy to work through some great options.

Let’s get your old boy feeling better!

  7. Pat Fleege on

My husband has Parkinson’s disease, diabetes and osteoarthritis. He takes “lots” of meds, but no pain meds. He is in constant pain, and has problems with fluid retention. We have tried CDB: We had a bottle of 240 mg, taking about 20 drops a day. Didn’t seem to do much except make him sleepier. I need more of a reference as to what he can take. Any suggestions would be helpful.

    • Rynn Jacobson on

Hi Pat – Thanks for reaching out. I’m so sorry to hear that your husband is struggling so much! I’d recommend that you give our Wellness Consultants a call to talk through this, as there’s a lot going on here. They’d be happy to have a one-one chat with you to work through the issues and recommend dosage options. – 608-663-2640

  8. Rhoda Kalscheur on

I received a correspondence that you are now called The HEALTHYPLACE. When I clicked on that it took me to another place that had nothing to do with Hemp Oil. Did you change your name?

    • Rynn Jacobson on

      Hi Rhoda,

Yes, we are rebranding from Apple Wellness to The Healthy Place! We’re excited for the change, as we feel it better captures who we are and our vision as a business. I’m not sure what correspondence you saw, so I can’t speak directly to where you ended up, but to answer your question — yep, that’s still us!
