Plant Therapy Star Anise Essential Oil

This beautiful spice, shaped like gold brown stars, is instantly recognizable by its warm, sweet licorice scent. Star anise comes from a type of evergreen tree navies to Vietnam and China. Unsurprisingly, star anise has a long history in Chinese medicine, with its use dating back more than 3,000 years. It has been used to promote sleep, ease joint pain, relieve aching muscles, and improve digestion.

Star anise essential oil is pressed from the sun-dried seeds of the star anise fruit. While is has many uses, Star Anise Essential Oil is most popular for use in diffusers, vaporizers, and in essential oil blends. Who wouldn’t love that warm, licorice scent?

  • Botanical Name: Pimpinella anisum
  • Aromatic Scent: Aniseed (Anise) Essential Oil has a spicy-sweet characteristic licorice scent
  • Strength of Aroma: Strong
  • Country of Origin: India
  • Extraction Method: Steam Distilled
  • Plant Part: Leaves
  • Kid Safe: No

Its aromatherapeutic use centers around its grounding, calming aroma. It helps to relieve stress and anxiety, easing tense muscles and helps to promote sleep.* (Star Anise essential oil should not be used in conjunction with sedatives, including drugs that are a member of the benzodiazepine family.)

This spicy essential oil also triggers synapses in the brain related to memory. If you need to increase your retention and combat mental fatigue, diffuse some Star Anise Essential Oil!*

Star Anise essential oil is believed to be helpful during a woman’s normal transition to menopause. It helps ease the sudden heat and sweating which often is present during this trying time in women’s lives.*

Topically, Star Anise Essential Oil has been shown to help relieve muscle and joint pain. It supports blood flow to the sore area, encouraging your body to naturally reduce pain signals and inflammation. It can also be used to relieve cramping and discomfort associated with PMS.*

In the home, Star Anise Essential Oil does an excellent job of naturally repelling insects. Either diffuse the oil in your home for a general bug repellent, or add it to a mister with water and spray your door frames, windows, and other points of entry. You can also create your own bug spray by adding Star Anise Essential Oil to a carrier oil and applying it to exposed skin. Mosquitoes will leave you alone to find someone else less ‘smelly’.
