Plant Therapy Cold Pressed Apricot Oil

If you’re looking for a lightweight carrier oil to incorporate into your aromatherapy or skincare practices, apricot kernel oil may be exactly what you need.  Apricot kernel oil is extracted from — you guessed it — the kernel that lies inside apricot pits. This oil is extracted using a cold-pressing process and then refined. It has a fatty acid profile similar to sweet almond oil. It’s rich in oleic and linoleum acid, as well as vitamins A, C, and E. It also contains naturally occurring phytosterols that help with skin nourishment.*

  • Botanical Name: Prunus armeniaca

  • Extraction Method: Cold pressed from apricot kernels and then refined

  • Aromatic Scent: Apricot Kernel carrier oil has very little scent, characteristic of most carrier oils

  • Consistency: Typical of many carrier oils

Because apricot kernel oil is so lightweight, it’s one of the most popular oils in skincare — particularly facial care. You can use it as your primary nourishing facial oil, or even as a cleansing oil to remove makeup. It is safe for sensitive skin, doesn’t clog pores, and absorbs very quickly.

Apricot kernel oil is particularly helpful for dry, mature skin and sensitive skin types. It’s mild yet highly moisturizing and is rich in antioxidants that may help support smoother-looking skin and the appearance of healthy skin aging.* Because it is so mild, it is well-suited for delicate skin and helps comfort dry-feeling skin.*

Suggested Use: Topical - Use at full strength as a carrier oil or as an ingredient in aromatherapy projects.

FAQs About Plant Therapy Cold Pressed Apricot Oil

Q: Does this work well as a facial oil, or is it too heavy? A: Yes, it’s pretty light. This one is 100% apricot kernel oil, so it usually sinks in well and doesn’t feel greasy or heavy on the skin.

Q: Should I use it straight on my skin or mix it with something? A: Either works. You can use it on its own as a carrier oil, or mix it with essential oils or DIY blends if that’s what you’re making.

Q: I've got dry, sensitive skin. Is apricot oil a good fit? A: Yeah, usually. Apricot kernel oil is one I like for dry, mature, or sensitive skin because it’s mild and softening without feeling too heavy.

Q: How do I use it on my hair? A: Rub a few drops between your palms and smooth it on where you want it. If your hair is dry, work several drops through the strands. I’d start with less so you don’t overdo it.

Q: Why does apricot kernel oil get used so much in aromatherapy? A: Because it’s a simple carrier oil that blends easily with other oils. Since this one is pure apricot kernel oil, it works well as a base for essential oil blends when you want something light and easy to spread.

Q: My doctor said to watch for allergy issues. Is there anyone who shouldn't use this? A: Yes. Don’t use it if you have tree nut allergies, and keep it for external use only. If your skin is very reactive, I’d patch test it first on a small area.
