FAQs About Barlean's Olive Leaf Complex

Q: Does this come in softgels or just the liquid? A: Both. There’s a liquid in natural or peppermint flavor, and there are softgels too. The softgels provide 225 mg of olive leaf extract per 2-softgel serving, standardized to 40% oleuropein, which comes to 90 mg.

Q: How much should I take per day? A: For softgels, take 2 a day. For the liquid, adults take 1 tablespoon a day, and kids take 1 1/2 teaspoons a day. If they’re under 2, I’d check with a doctor first.

Q: I've heard olive leaf is used for immune support. Is that what this one is for? A: Yes. Most people use it for immune support. Some also take it for heart and circulation support as part of their routine.

Q: Why does oleuropein matter in this formula? A: It’s one of the main active compounds in olive leaf. The softgels give you 90 mg of oleuropein per serving, and the liquid gives you 95 mg per tablespoon, so you know how much you’re getting either way.

Q: Should I take it with food or can I take it on an empty stomach? A: Either is fine, but I’d take it with food if your stomach is sensitive. The liquid can be taken straight or mixed into water, tea, or juice.

Q: My doctor said I run low blood pressure sometimes. Is this still okay to use? A: Use caution with this one. Olive leaf can lower blood pressure in some people, so if you already run low or you’re on medication, I’d check with your doctor or pharmacist before you start it.

Q: Is the softgel version vegetarian? A: No. The softgels contain gelatin and beeswax, so they aren’t vegetarian.
