Q: Does this one help with stress, or is it more for energy? A: It’s mainly used for stress. Gaia puts 350 mg of an ashwagandha blend in each capsule, plus 2.5 mg of withanolides, which are the active compounds most people look for.

Q: How should I take Gaia Ashwagandha Root? A: Take 1 capsule twice a day. I’d do one in the morning and one in the evening. If your stomach is sensitive, take it with food.

Q: Why does this one list both whole root and root extract? A: Gaia does that a lot with their herbs. You’re getting a 350 mg proprietary blend of organic ashwagandha root and root extract, so it gives you the whole herb plus a more concentrated form.

Q: I've heard ashwagandha can make you sleepy. Is that true? A: Sometimes, yeah. Some people feel more relaxed and a little drowsy on it, so if you’re not sure how you’ll respond, I’d try the first dose later in the day.

Q: Should I avoid this if I'm pregnant or nursing? A: Yes. I’d skip this during pregnancy or while nursing, and talk to your OB or midwife before starting anything like this.

Q: My doctor said to be careful with supplements. Does ashwagandha interact with medications? A: Yes, it can. If you take meds for thyroid, blood sugar, blood pressure, anxiety, sleep, or anything immunosuppressive, check with your doctor or pharmacist before using it.
