Cautions: Keep out of the reach of children. US FDA advises that a potential risk of rare, but severe, liver injury may be associated with kava-containing dietary supplements. Do not take if you have, or have had, liver problems, drink alcohol, or take any medications. If you have a medical condition, use it under the advice of a health care provider. Stop use and see a doctor if you develop symptoms that may signal liver problems, including jaundice (yellowing of the skin or whites of the eyes) and brown urine. Other nonspecific symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, light-colored stools, unexplained tiredness, weakness, stomach or abdominal pain, and loss of appetite. Not for use by persons under 18 years of age, or by pregnant or breastfeeding women. Not for use with alcoholic beverages. Excessive use, or use with products that cause drowsiness, may impair your ability to operate a vehicle or heavy equipment

FAQs About Gaia Herbs Kava Root Capsules

Q: Does this help take the edge off when your mind won't slow down? A: Yes. That's the main reason people buy kava. This one uses kava root extract with kavalactones, and people commonly use it for occasional stress, whirling thoughts, and to relax at the end of the day.

Q: How should I take Gaia Herbs Kava Root Capsules? A: Take 1 capsule 3 times a day between meals. I wouldn't take more than that, and Gaia says not to use it for more than 1 month at a time.

Q: Should I take it during the day or just at night? A: Either can work. It depends on why you're taking it. Some people take 1 capsule later in the day to unwind. Others use the full 3-times-daily schedule for a short period.

Q: I've heard that kava can affect the liver. Is that true? A: Yes. Kava does come with a liver warning. Don't use this one if you have liver problems now or had them in the past, and skip it if you drink alcohol or take any medications unless your doctor says it's okay.

Q: My doctor said to be careful with supplements if I'm on medication. Is this one okay? A: Be careful with this one. The FDA warning on kava is pretty direct, and Gaia says not to take it if you use any medications unless a health care provider tells you to.

Q: Why does this one say maximum time of use 1 month? A: Because kava usually isn't something I'd use long term without supervision. Gaia caps it at 1 month, mostly because of the safety concerns around liver risk.

Q: Is this one vegan, and what else is in the capsule? A: Yes, it's vegan. The capsule is hypromellose. The other ingredients are vegetable glycerin, sunflower lecithin, and water.
