Great Lakes Wellness Unflavored Beef Gelatin Powder

Gelatin is the ingredient that gives jelly and homemade gummies their springy texture. It is also a protein, made of the same amino acids you find in collagen. In fact, gelatin is extracted from the bones, skin, and connective tissue of cattle and then cooked, which is why people often call it the cooked form of collagen. This is a 16 oz tub of pure beef gelatin powder, sourced from pasture-raised, grass-fed cows.

What beef gelatin powder is good for

Beef gelatin is a simple way to add a little extra protein to food and drinks. The amino acids in it are the building blocks your body uses for connective tissue, so people reach for it to help support skin, hair, and nail health, joint comfort, healthy bones, and everyday digestive function.* It will not replace a balanced diet, and it is not a complete protein on its own, but it is an easy addition that works into a lot of recipes.

How people actually use it

Great Lakes Unflavored Beef Gelatin is flavorless, odorless, and colorless, so it disappears into whatever you mix it with. It dissolves in hot liquids and thickens or gels in cool ones, which is what makes it different from collagen peptides that stay dissolved. Stir a spoonful into hot coffee or tea, blend it into a smoothie, or use it as a thickener in soups and sauces. It is also the go-to for homemade gummies, marshmallows, mousses, and no-bake desserts.

What is in it, and what is not

The only ingredient is bovine gelatin from grass-fed, pasture-raised cattle. It is glyphosate free, and the label carries Kosher, Halal, Non-GMO, and Gluten-Free marks. There are no fillers, sweeteners, or added flavors. One honest caveat: because gelatin gels, it can clump if you dump it straight into hot water, so bloom it in cool liquid first (more on that below).

Suggested Use: 1 Tablespoon (12 g) per serving. Bloom the gelatin first by stirring 1 Tbsp into about 1/2 cup cool water and letting it sit 5 minutes, then dissolve into hot liquid. Use as a thickener or stabilizer in soups, sauces, mousses, no-bake desserts, jams, and ice cream, or to make gummies and marshmallows. As a guide, 1 Tbsp gels roughly 1 pint of liquid (1 Tbsp = 1 envelope or 3 1/2 sheets).

Cautions: Keep out of the reach of children. Consult a physician before taking this product if you are pregnant, nursing, taking any medications, or have a medical condition.

FAQs About Great Lakes Wellness Unflavored Beef Gelatin

Q: What is the difference between beef gelatin and collagen peptides? A: They come from the same source and share the same amino acids. The difference is behavior in liquid: this gelatin gels and thickens when it cools, while collagen peptides stay dissolved. If you want a powder that sets gummies or thickens a sauce, gelatin is the one you want.

Q: Does it have any flavor? A: No. Great Lakes Unflavored Beef Gelatin is flavorless, odorless, and colorless, so it blends into coffee, tea, smoothies, and recipes without changing the taste.

Q: How do I keep it from clumping? A: Bloom it first. Stir 1 tablespoon into about 1/2 cup of cool water and let it sit for roughly 5 minutes, then mix that into your hot liquid. Adding the powder straight to hot water is what causes clumps.

Q: Where does the gelatin come from? A: It is bovine gelatin extracted from the bones, skin, and connective tissue of pasture-raised, grass-fed cows. It is glyphosate free and carries Kosher, Halal, Non-GMO, and Gluten-Free marks.

Q: How many servings are in the tub? A: The 16 oz tub has 37 servings at a 1 Tablespoon (12 g) serving size.
