Q: Does this work for both dogs and cats? A: Yes. It's made for both. You just change the dose based on your pet's weight. For example, a 5 to 9 lb cat gets 0.5 mL, and a 5 to 9 lb dog gets 1.0 mL.
Q: How much should I give my dog each day? A: Go by your dog's weight. If your dog is 20 to 39 lbs, give 0.5 teaspoon, or 2.5 mL, per day. That works out to 368 mg EPA and 253 mg DHA. If your dog is 40 to 59 lbs, give 1 teaspoon, or 5.0 mL.
Q: Why does this one use EPA and DHA? A: Because those are the main omega-3s in fish oil. This one gets them from anchovy and sardine oil, with at least 16% EPA and 11% DHA per teaspoon.
Q: Should I give it with food or just by itself? A: I'd give it with food. Most pets handle fish oil better when it's mixed into a meal, and it's usually easier on the stomach that way.
Q: My cat is picky. Does this have flavoring in it? A: No, it's unflavored. The oil comes from anchovy and sardine, so it still has a fish smell and taste even without added flavoring.
Q: Are there any safety concerns with this fish oil? A: Usually it's well tolerated, but be careful if your pet is on blood thinners or has surgery coming up. I'd also check with your vet first if your dog or cat has pancreatitis, a bleeding disorder, or takes other meds.
