FAQs About Plant Therapy Nutmeg Essential Oil

Q: Does nutmeg essential oil need to be diluted before I put it on my skin? A: Yes. Don’t put this one on your skin undiluted. Plant Therapy recommends a maximum topical dilution of 0.8%, so you’d use only a very small amount in a carrier oil.

Q: How would I use this for an upset stomach or sluggish digestion? A: Dilute it first, then rub it on your abdomen. The brand says to mix Nutmeg into a carrier oil and massage it onto your belly in clockwise circles.

Q: Can I put this in a bath for sore muscles and joints? A: Yes, but don’t add the oil straight to the bath water. Mix a couple of drops into 1 ounce of milk or 1 teaspoon of carrier oil first. Then stir that into 1/2 cup of Epsom salts and add it to a warm bath.

Q: What's actually in this oil? A: There’s just one ingredient: Myristica fragrans, which is nutmeg kernel oil. No blend, and no extra oils are listed.

Q: Is this safe for kids? A: No. This one is not child safe. Keep it well out of reach, and don’t use it on children.

Q: I've heard nutmeg oil can be toxic. Is that true? A: Yes, if you use too much, that can be a concern. I’d stick to very small, well-diluted amounts and never put it on skin undiluted.

Q: Should I use this if I'm pregnant or nursing? A: Check with your doctor first. The caution section says to consult a physician, and if you’re pregnant or nursing, I’d want your OB or midwife to weigh in before you start using this one.
