Q: Does this give you both fish oil and vitamin D? A: Yes. The liquid gives you 1560 mg total omega-3s and 25 mcg, or 1000 IU, of vitamin D3 per teaspoon. The softgels give you 690 mg omega-3s and the same 1000 IU per 2 softgels.
Q: Should I take the liquid or the softgels? A: It depends on what you want. The liquid is the stronger serving, with 745 mg EPA and 500 mg DHA per teaspoon. Two softgels give you 330 mg EPA and 220 mg DHA, and they're usually easier if you don't want the taste of fish oil.
Q: How do I take Nordic Naturals Omega-3D? A: Take 1 teaspoon a day with food if you're using the liquid, or 2 softgels a day with food. If you go with the liquid, keep it in the fridge after opening and use it within 3 months.
Q: I've heard fish oil can cause fishy burps. Does this one do that? A: Sometimes, yes, but usually less than a lot of fish oils. The lemon flavor helps. Taking it with a meal also usually makes a big difference.
Q: My doctor said to be careful with blood thinners. Is that an issue here? A: Yes, be careful. Fish oil may raise the chance of bruising or bleeding, so if you're on a blood thinner or any meds, I'd check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Q: Why does this one use anchovies and sardines? A: Because small fish like anchovies and sardines are a common source of omega-3s. This one uses purified deep-sea fish oil from them, and EPA and DHA are the main omega-3s you're getting.
Q: Can I take this if I'm pregnant or nursing? A: Maybe, but I'd check with your OB or midwife before starting it. Same if you have an iodine allergy, since fish oil products can be a concern there.
