Q: Does this help lower cholesterol? A: It’s meant to support healthy cholesterol levels that are already in the normal range. Each 3-capsule serving has 1,200 mg of red yeast rice, 500 mg of citrus bergamot, and 150 mg of plant sterols.
Q: How many capsules should I take per day? A: A serving is 3 capsules a day. If you want to be more aggressive, the brand says 3 capsules twice daily, but I’d start with 3 and see how your stomach handles it.
Q: Should I take it with food? A: Yes, I would. With red yeast rice, CoQ10, vitamin E, and cayenne in this formula, most people do better taking it with a meal.
Q: Why does this have CoQ10 in it? A: Mostly to round out the formula. You get 30 mg of CoQ10 per serving, and a lot of people like taking that with red yeast rice since it can be a little rough on some people.
Q: My doctor said to be careful with red yeast rice. Is that true? A: Yes. For some people, red yeast rice can act a lot like a statin, so I’d be careful if you’ve had muscle pain, liver issues, or already take a cholesterol medication.
Q: Does it have any medication interactions? A: Yes, potentially. I’d check with your pharmacist if you take statins, blood thinners, blood pressure meds, or anything for blood sugar, since this formula also has garlic extract, resveratrol, policosanol, and cayenne.
Q: Is this okay during pregnancy or while nursing? A: No, I wouldn’t start this on your own during pregnancy or while nursing. Talk with your OB or midwife before starting it.
