Douglas Laboratories Melatonin P.R.

Is there anything worse than tossing, turning, and lying awake at night? You know you need to be up and at ‘em in a few short hours but you just...can’t...fall...asleep.

Enter Melatonin. It’s a natural sleep aid that’s gentle enough for everyday use. Plus, Douglas Laboratories Melatonin P.R. delivers Melatonin in a slow-release tablet. That prolonged absorption helps your body ease into sleep gradually and stay asleep — a pattern that feels more in line with your body’s natural rhythm.

Your body makes its own melatonin. It’s a hormone involved in the sleep/wake cycle, also known as the circadian rhythm. When your body produces less melatonin, it’s a signal to wake up and seize the day! When your body produces more melatonin, like it does at night, it’s a cue to wind down, drink some tea, and drift off to sleep.

Of course, there are plenty of reasons you might find yourself staring at the ceiling at night. The good news? Melatonin naturally promotes sleep* by giving your body more of the signal that says ‘hey, let’s go to bed.’ Sleep isn’t the only thing Melatonin is known for, though. Douglas Laboratories Melatonin P.R. also:

  • Contains antioxidant properties: This means it helps neutralize free radicals and promotes overall immune function.*

  • Relieves stress: Melatonin also helps with a healthy stress response by playing a role in cortisol balance.*

  • Cardiovascular function: Melatonin helps maintain healthy blood pressure levels already within normal range.*

  • Helps with seasonal changes: Melatonin supports a healthy circadian rhythm and promotes balanced mood during seasonal changes.*

  • Promotes eye health: Melatonin is involved in many eye functions, so taking a melatonin supplement may help maintain eye health.*

FAQs About Douglas Laboratories Melatonin P.R.

Q: Does this help you stay asleep, or just fall asleep? A: More both than a quick-hit melatonin. It has 3 mg of prolonged-release melatonin, so it releases over time instead of all at once.

Q: How should I take Douglas Melatonin P.R.? A: Take 1 tablet about 1 hour before bed. I'd take it once you're done driving and ready to wind down, since melatonin can make you sleepy.

Q: Why does this one say P.R.? A: P.R. means prolonged release. The melatonin is made to come out more gradually, which is closer to how your body normally releases it overnight.

Q: My doctor said to be careful with melatonin. Are there any medication interactions? A: Yes. Be careful if you take MAO inhibitors, immunosuppressants, blood thinners, or blood pressure meds. I'd also check with your pharmacist if you're on anything for mood, seizures, or sleep.

Q: Should I start with a whole tablet? A: Usually yes. One tablet is the full serving and gives you 3 mg of melatonin. If you're really sensitive to melatonin, ask your healthcare provider whether a lower dose makes more sense for you.

Q: I've heard melatonin can feel groggy the next day. Is that possible with this one? A: Yeah, it can happen. This is a prolonged-release 3 mg tablet, so some people like that and some feel a little too sleepy in the morning, especially if they didn't get a full night's sleep.

Q: Can I take this if I'm pregnant or nursing? A: I'd hold off unless your provider specifically wants you to take it. Talk to your OB or midwife before starting this one.
