Citronella Essential Oil: Because citronella is perhaps the best-known plant for repelling mosquitoes, it should come as no surprise that it is included in our blend! This pungent essential oil is one of the best for keeping mosquitoes and other biting insects at bay.*
Pink Grapefruit Essential Oil: This bright citrus essential oil may come as a surprise in our blend of bug repellent essential oils, but mosquitoes and ticks are both strongly deterred by this essential oil. For families that live in areas where ticks are prevalent (most of the continental USA), this essential oil helps deter ticks when used as directed and supports outdoor comfort.*
Rosalina Essential Oil: Bugs may hate the smell of Rosalina, but people love it! This bug repellent essential oil also helps soothe skin after outdoor irritation and bites.*
Geranium Essential Oil: This is another excellent essential oil for repelling ticks, and it also helps deter lice and fleas! Geranium essential oil is a helpful addition for discouraging insect bites during outdoor time.*
Patchouli Essential Oil: Recognized throughout history for its natural ability to deter insects, patchouli oil will help to drive away mosquitoes, moths, and ants, and can even help to deter undesirables such as lice, bed bugs, and fleas!*
- Pre-Diluted Roll-On: Apply directly to the arms, legs and neck before going outdoors.
- 10 mL Bottle: Add 40 drops of Shield Me Organic to 2 oz of Fractionated Coconut Oil in a clean spray bottle. Shake well and apply to the arms, legs, and neck before going outdoors. Can be diffused outdoors, applied to clothing, made into a spray, or used in an oil burner around a picnic area. For topical use, dilute to 2-4%.

Q: Does this actually help keep bugs away? A: Yes. That's what it's for. This blend uses citronella, pink grapefruit, bourbon geranium, rosalina, and patchouli, which people commonly use before going outside to help repel insects.
Q: Should I get the roll-on or the regular 10 mL bottle? A: Get the roll-on if you want something ready to use. It's already diluted to 3% in fractionated coconut oil. The 10 mL bottle is straight essential oils, so you need to dilute it before putting it on skin.
Q: How do I use the 10 mL bottle on skin? A: Don't use that one straight. Mix 40 drops into 2 ounces of fractionated coconut oil in a spray bottle, shake it up, and put it on arms, legs, and neck before going outside.
Q: I've heard citrus oils can be irritating. Does this one have any in it? A: Yes. It has pink grapefruit peel oil. Most people do fine with it when it's properly diluted, but if your child has really sensitive skin, I'd patch test first.
Q: Is this safe for little kids? A: Yes, it's made for kids ages 2 to 10. I'd still keep it out of reach and not use the undiluted 10 mL bottle directly on skin.
Q: Can I diffuse this instead of putting it on skin? A: Yes. A lot of families diffuse it outdoors, use it in an oil burner near a picnic area, or spray it on clothing after proper dilution.
Q: My doctor said to be careful with essential oils during pregnancy. Is that a concern here? A: Yes, I'd be careful. If you're pregnant or nursing, check with your OB or midwife before using it, especially since the regular bottle is a concentrated blend of essential oils.
