Thorne Research Basic B-Complex

It’s time to get back to basics — the basics of B vitamins! There are 8 B vitamins, and because they’re water-soluble, the body doesn’t store them for long. In other words, we need to get our B vitamins from food — or from a comprehensive vitamin B supplement like Thorne Research Basic B-Complex!*

  • Vitamin B1/thiamin plays a role in absorbing nutrients from food and turning them into energy.*

  • Vitamin B2/riboflavin 5'-phosphate helps convert nutrients into energy and contributes antioxidant activity that supports the body’s response to oxidative stress.*

  • Vitamin B3/niacinamide is involved in cellular signaling and is essential for DNA production and repair.*

  • Vitamin B5/pantothenic acid helps support energy metabolism and healthy hormone production.*

  • Vitamin B6/pyridoxine/pyridoxal 5'-phosphate helps with the creation of red blood cells and neurotransmitters.*

  • Vitamin B7/biotin is often used for healthy hair, skin, and nails.*

  • Vitamin B9/folate, especially important during pregnancy, plays a role in cell division and the creation of new cells.*

  • Vitamin B12/methylcobalamin participates in red blood cell formation, tissue health, and DNA synthesis.*

FAQs About Thorne Research Basic B-Complex Capsules

Q: How should I take this B-complex? A: Start with 1 capsule a day, usually with breakfast or lunch. The label says 1 capsule one to three times daily, but most people don't need to jump straight to three unless their practitioner told them to.

Q: Does this use the active forms of folate and B12? A: Yes. It uses L-5-MTHF for folate and methylcobalamin for B12. Those are the forms people usually mean when they say the active forms.

Q: Why does this one have both niacinamide and niacin? A: Because the niacin is split into 130 mg of niacinamide and 10 mg of niacin. That usually means less flushing than a straight high-dose niacin product, though really sensitive people may still feel some warmth.

Q: I've heard B vitamins can make your urine bright yellow. Is that normal? A: Yes. Riboflavin can do that, and this one has 10 mg of riboflavin 5'-phosphate, so bright yellow urine is common and usually harmless.

Q: Should I take this at night? A: I usually wouldn't. B vitamins can feel a little energizing for some people, so morning or early afternoon is usually a better fit.

Q: My doctor said to be careful with folate. Is there anything here I should know? A: Yes. This one has 400 mcg of L-5-MTHF. If you are undergoing physician-supervised therapy, check with your doctor or pharmacist before use.

Q: Is this okay if I'm pregnant, nursing, or on medications? A: I'd check first. If you're pregnant or nursing, talk to your OB or midwife before starting it. If you take any medications or have a medical condition, I'd run it by your doctor too.
