Suggested Use: Take 2 capsules daily or as recommended by your health professional.

Cautions: Keep out of the reach of children. Consult a physician before taking this product if you are pregnant, nursing, taking any medications, or have a medical condition. As vitamin K interferes with the effect of anticoagulant drugs (like Coumadin), the concurrent use of these agents should be avoided.

5-methyltetrahydrofolate supplementation is not recommended concurrently with methotrexate cancer therapy, as it can interfere with methotrexate's anti-neoplastic activity; however, this folate source has not been shown to interfere with the anti-inflammatory activity of methotrexate. An individual taking methotrexate for psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis can safely take a supplement containing folate.

Allergy Warning: This product is contraindicated in an individual with a history of hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients. Iodine may occasionally cause an allergic reaction in some individuals.

FAQs About Thorne Research Basic Nutrients 2/Day Capsules

Q: How do you take Basic Nutrients 2/Day? A: Take two capsules a day. I’d take them with food, and if multis bother your stomach, do one at breakfast and one at lunch.

Q: Does this have methylated B vitamins? A: Yes. It uses L-5-MTHF for folate and methylcobalamin for B12, which a lot of people look for if they’re trying to avoid regular folic acid or cyanocobalamin.

Q: Why does this one make some people feel more energized? A: Usually it’s the B vitamins. This one has pretty solid amounts—B1 at 50 mg, B6 at 20 mg, and B12 at 600 mcg—so I probably wouldn’t take it late at night.

Q: Is this enough for vitamin D and K? A: For a lot of people, yes. You get 2,000 IU of vitamin D3 and 400 mcg of vitamin K total, split between K1 and K2 as MK-4.

Q: My doctor said to watch vitamin K because I'm on a blood thinner. Can I still use this? A: I’d skip it unless your doctor specifically says it’s okay. There’s 400 mcg of vitamin K in the full serving, and that can interfere with anticoagulant drugs like Coumadin.

Q: Does this cover magnesium and calcium too, or would I still need more? A: A little, but not much. You’re only getting 20 mg of magnesium and 52 mg of calcium, so if you’re taking it for bones, muscle cramps, or constipation, you’d probably still want a separate magnesium or calcium product, depending on what you need.

Q: Should I take this if I'm pregnant or nursing? A: Not without checking first. Talk to your OB or midwife before starting it, especially since it has active folate as L-5-MTHF and higher amounts of several nutrients.
