Did you know that an ample supply of vitamin D plays a key role in helping your kids grow healthy and strong?* These days, making sure kids get enough vitamin D matters more than ever. Kids spend less time outdoors, and when they do go outside our use of sunblock and sunscreen can make it harder for their bodies to produce vitamin D from sunlight.*

For those of us who live in northern latitudes or in large cities, regular sun exposure can be even tougher to come by. Families with darker skin pigmentation generally need more sun exposure to generate an adequate amount of vitamin D. Additionally, if the mother has low vitamin D levels, her baby may also have low vitamin D levels.*

In fact, concerns about low vitamin D intake prompted The American Academy of Pediatrics to recommend routine vitamin D supplementation for children, including babies, particularly when sunlight exposure is limited. Vitamin D helps maintain healthy bone development and normal growth in children.*

Fortunately, vitamin D is one of the most accessible and affordable vitamins. Get your kids to spend more time outside in the sun when possible, and supplement vitamin D! Experts recommend additional supplemental vitamin D for kids, ideally in the bioavailable active form vitamin D3, to encourage healthy growth and long-term wellness.*

FAQs About Natures Plus Animal Parade Vitamin D3 500IU Children's Chewable

Q: Does this give kids enough vitamin D for daily use? A: Yes, for a basic daily dose. Each chewable has 12.5 mcg, or 500 IU, of vitamin D3, so it works as a maintenance amount for kids age 2 and up.

Q: How should I give this to my child? A: One chewable a day. I'd give it with a meal if you can, since vitamin D3 tends to absorb better with food.

Q: Why does this one use vitamin D3 instead of D2? A: D3 is usually the form people look for. This one uses cholecalciferol, which is commonly used to help keep vitamin D levels up.

Q: I've heard some kids' vitamins are loaded with sugar. How much sugar is in this one? A: Not much, but it isn't sugar-free. Each tablet has 1 gram of total sugar, including 1 gram of added sugar, and it's also sweetened with xylitol.

Q: Should I give this along with a calcium supplement? A: Maybe. It really depends on what your child eats. Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium, so they often go hand in hand, but if your child already gets enough calcium from food, you may not need both.

Q: My doctor said to be careful with supplements. Any concerns with this one? A: For most kids, one a day is straightforward, but don't give more than the suggested amount unless your pediatrician tells you to. If your child takes medication or has a medical condition, I'd check with their doctor first.
