FAQs About Pure Encapsulations PureGenomics® B-Complex Capsules

Q: Who would usually take this B-complex? A: Usually someone who wants a broad B formula with active folate and B12 forms. This one has L-5-MTHF folate at 1,333 mcg DFE and B12 as adenosylcobalamin plus hydroxycobalamin, so people often pick it when they want to avoid basic folic acid and cyanocobalamin.

Q: Does this use methylfolate or folic acid? A: It uses methylfolate, not folic acid. The folate here is Metafolin, which is L-5-MTHF, at 1,333 mcg DFE per capsule.

Q: Why does this one have such high B12 and B6 amounts? A: Because it's a high-potency formula. You get 800 mcg of B12 and 50 mg of B6 per capsule, which is a lot more than a basic multivitamin. I'd usually stick with one a day unless your practitioner told you otherwise.

Q: Should I take it with food or on an empty stomach? A: With food. One capsule a day with a meal usually sits better, especially since niacinamide is 50 mg and B vitamins can make some people feel a little queasy on an empty stomach.

Q: I've heard B vitamins can make urine bright yellow. Will this one do that? A: Yep, it might. Riboflavin is 15 mg here, and that's the one that usually turns urine bright yellow.

Q: My doctor said to be careful with supplements while pregnant. Is this one okay? A: I'd check with your OB or midwife before starting this one. It has higher amounts of several B vitamins, including 1,333 mcg DFE of folate and 50 mg of B6, so I'd want your provider to weigh in first.

Q: Does it have any medication concerns? A: Yes, potentially. Folate and B12 can matter if you're on certain seizure meds or methotrexate, and high-dose biotin can interfere with some lab tests. If you take medications or have bloodwork coming up, I'd check with your pharmacist.
