Barlean's Flax Oil Softgels
Looking for the best omega-3 supplement that doesn’t smell like fish? Look no further! Barlean’s Flax Oil Softgels have a rich nutty flavor instead of a fishy aftertaste. That’s because flax is one of the best plant-based sources of omega-3 fatty acids. In fact, flax seeds are one of the oldest crops in the world!
At The Healthy Place, we’re huge fans of this humble plant. Flax seeds bring a lot to the table — here are just a few highlights:
- Provides essential omega-3 fatty acids*
- Supports cardiovascular function*
- Promotes radiant skin and hair*
- Supports immune function*
- Supports healthy weight management*
- Supports digestive health and bowel regularity*
Since omega-3s are essential fatty acids, our bodies can’t produce them, which means we need to get them from foods or supplements like Barlean’s Flax Oil Softgels. Flaxseed is rich in omega-3s and polyunsaturated fatty acids that help maintain cardiovascular, cognitive, skin, and mood health*
Did you know that light, oxygen, and high temperatures can impact the essential fatty acids and nutrition in flaxseeds? That’s why Barlean’s cold-presses their flax in the dark where the seeds are protected from light and air. So when you take Barlean’s Flax Oil Softgels, you’re getting the highest quality and most nutritional form of pure and unrefined flax oil!*

FAQs About Barlean's Flax Oil Softgel
Q: Does this give you the same omega-3s as fish oil? A: No. This gives you plant-based omega-3 as ALA, 1,650 mg per 3 softgels. It does not provide EPA and DHA like fish oil.
Q: How many softgels should I take per day? A: Barlean's suggests 3 to 9 softgels a day. I’d start with 3, with food if you can, then adjust if needed.
Q: I've heard flax oil can go rancid. Is that a concern with softgels? A: Less than with liquid oil. The softgels help protect it from air and light. I’d still keep the bottle tightly closed and store it in a cool, dry place.
Q: Why does this have omega-6 and omega-9 too? A: Flaxseed oil naturally has more than just ALA. Per 3 softgels, you also get 410 mg of omega-6 linoleic acid and 480 mg of omega-9 oleic acid.
Q: Should I take this with food or on an empty stomach? A: With food is usually better. Most people handle oils better that way, especially if they’re taking more than 3 softgels.
Q: My doctor said to watch supplements with blood thinners. Is this one okay? A: Use caution. Flax oil may raise the chance of bruising or bleeding in some people, so if you take a blood thinner or even daily aspirin, I’d check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Q: Is this one vegetarian? A: No. The oil comes from flaxseed, but the softgel is made with gelatin, so it’s not vegetarian or vegan.
