FAQs About Plant Therapy Organic Spearmint Essential Oil

Q: What do people usually use spearmint essential oil for? A: Mostly for the fresh scent and for queasy stomachs. This one is organic Mentha viridis spearmint leaf oil, and a lot of people use it in a diffuser or dilute it before putting it on skin.

Q: Does this need to be diluted before I put it on my skin? A: Yes. I’d dilute it to 2 to 4% for topical use, because straight essential oils can irritate skin.

Q: Should I use this in a diffuser or put it on directly? A: Either works, but I’d still dilute it for skin use. If you mostly want the smell, a diffuser or personal inhaler is the easiest option.

Q: I've heard spearmint is gentler than peppermint. Is that true? A: Yeah, usually. Spearmint tends to smell softer and feel less intense than peppermint, which is why a lot of people prefer it for kids, but I’d still use it carefully and keep it diluted.

Q: Can I take this essential oil internally for nausea or digestion? A: I wouldn’t. The bottle gives directions for diffuser and topical use, not for taking it internally, so I’d stick with those unless your practitioner tells you otherwise.

Q: Are there any safety concerns with this one? A: Yes, a few. Keep it out of your eyes, don’t use it undiluted on skin, and if you’re pregnant or nursing, check with your OB or midwife before starting it.
